Scholarships offered at Capital Communications Federal Credit Union

Making a Difference Award

We’re looking for Credit Union members between the ages of 13 and 17 who are making a commitment to their community through volunteer work and community service. Teens can nominate themselves or nominations can be made by a parent, teacher or friend.

• Nominee’s name and contact information  

• Signed verification form (Forms available online at www.capcomfcu.org. Click on “Personal” and then “Teens and Young Adult.”)

• The nominee’s role/relationship in the organization(s)       

• A letter explaining how the nominee is making a difference

Winners will receive an 18-month CertifiKID* in the following amount:          

bullet1st place - $1,000
bullet2nd place - $500
bullet3rd place - $300

In addition, the winning teens will receive $100 to donate to the charity of their choice. Winners will be announced at Capital Communications Federal Credit Union’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at The Century House in Latham. Deadline for nominations is February 27, 2009.

*Penalties may be issued for early withdrawals. CCFCU employees, volunteers and their families are not eligible.     

$2,000 Art Goedeke Memorial Scholarship

Does your future hold a career in Computer Science/Information Technology?

If you are a member through the age of 25 and are at least a graduating senior who plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in Computer Science/Information Technology, apply for the 2008 Art Goedeke Memorial Scholarship.* The late Art Goedeke, a longtime Credit Union member, had a passion for computer science/information technology and his family has set up this $2,000 scholarship to help a student with that same career interest. To apply, answer the question below with an essay of no more than 500 words and send it with:

• Completed entry form (Form available online at www.capcomfcu.org. Click on “Personal” and then “Teens and Young Adult.”)

• Copy of your tuition bill or college application

Essay Question:

“Provide one idea of how technology can improve how we serve our members at our Credit Union. Give a specific example of how your idea would help.”

*To apply, you must be a member in good standing at Capital Communications Federal Credit Union. Credit Union employees, volunteers and their families are not eligible. Deadline for submission is February 27, 2009.

2009 $2,500 Weidner “Ed” Davis Scholarships

Starting in March of ’09 – Capital Communications Cares Foundation will release the 2009 Weidner “Ed” Davis Scholarship question. The Foundation will be awarding ten $2,500 scholarships to Credit Union members. This scholarship is open to members through age 25 who are at least a graduating high school senior and who are studying for an undergraduate degree.

  The deadline for 2009 submissions is May 1, 2009.

To apply, students need to answer the essay question in no more than 500 words given in March and send it into the credit union along with:

·         Completed application form

·         Copy of your tuition bill or acceptance letter
